Drummers Wood is a wonderful example of ancient semi-natural woodland. Mature oak are dominant throughout with an understory of young hazel coppice.

The ground is level across the site and access around the woodland is unencumbered. Aside from the many oak, an impressive Scots pine cane be found along the main access track on the western side of the wood and a rare wild service tree sits on the southern boundary, also a good indicator for ancient woodland. Mature ash coppice, blackthorn and hawthorn are common and in season bluebells carpet the woodland floor.

Drummers Wood makes up a part of the larger Odd Quarter Wood and has been designated an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and as such is nationally recognised.

Odd Quarter Wood and the surrounding area are home to a wealth of wildlife, including hare, muntjac and roe deer, all seen on our recent visit.

There is a pleasant camp area towards the northwest corner of the wood which makes an ideal base for overnight stays and woodland activities.

Drummers Wood is situated between Huntingdon and Peterborough with easy access to the A1. The local village of Sawtry is just minutes away. Monks Wood Nature Reserve of which Odd Quarter was once part is also within walking distance.

Ward is Sawtry and the County Council is Cambridgeshire

Boundaries: Boundaries are open on all sides and marked with pink paint. North, and west follow the main access tracks. To the east the boundary joins neighboring woodland and open fields lie to the south.

Access: There is good vehicle access via a shared track and locked gate. Parking is possible within the woodland itself.
