St Andrews Wood provides the ideal assortment of mature oak and alder amongst younger naturally seeded birch, along with open grassy areas and occasional denser hawthorn and holly thicket. This mixture of habitats has broad appeal to varied forms of wildlife from small insects, butterflies and voles at one end of the chain to larger mammals such as fallow and roe deer at the other. It also provides ideal clearings for camping and picnic spots to observe this biodiversity in action. Named after the nearby ancient church of the same name, tells of a long history of land management. This includes the landmark oaks planted as statement trees by the wealthy estate owners of yesteryear and the barely discernible remains of ditching and landscaping started several hundred years ago to dry out the ground. Some of that ancient work shows in gentle undulations along parts of the woodland floor.
It is this distance from public roads that gives a true sense of seclusion and tranquillity for those in search of the unique peace that makes woodland of this type such an enchanting place.
Photos from last spring and summer show what is install for an owner.
Access The woodland can be accessed by car and is located at the end of a long bridleway and then a woodland track that passes through other areas of attractive woodland. Please note that future owners will have a key for the removable bollard in order to drive along this bridleway into the woods.
