Drone video of the wood and the valley is available on request.
Beautiful broadleaved woodland set in the Chilterns area of outstanding natural beauty to one side of a gently sloping shallow valley where the river Chess flows eastwards to Rickmansworth. A magical woodland with the wonderful views over the river valley from inside the wood in winter gradually fade as leaves emerge in the spring and bluebells become the point of focus.
Trees are well-grown and for those seeking a modest income a Forestry Commission felling licence is in place for thinning some of the larch, a valuable timber. Details for this are available on request. The wood is principally oak, beech, sycamore, sweet chestnut and cherry with larch and occasional Scots pine.
The nearby Latimer Estate and it's manor house (now a hotel) has a fascinating history, with the first mention of a manor house at Latimer recorded as early as 12th century. During the last war it was top secret centre for military intelligence and was one of Britain's most secret homes.
Conservation and Wildlife Walk Wood is designated as PAWS, (plantation on ancient wood site) this says while the woodland was semi-natural ancient woodland before the present assemblage, as the plantation is largely deciduous in conservation terms it is almost akin to being semi-natural.
Access is directly off Stony Lane from where a solid track extends along the top of the wood to the far end. This is also a bridleway. It is not gated at present but could be if a minimum of 5 feet is left for access.
Boundaries on the east there is Stony Lane and on the other three sides there are fences.
