Description This woodland offers variety as well as privacy. The main part of the woodland is traditional Kentish chestnut coppice, interspersed with some fine oaks. There is a useful clearing in Deacon Wood and bluebells are to found amongst the coppice. To the south west, there is a contrasting area of Corsican pine, bordered by hornbeam. One of our photos shows the view of the wood from the wide shared track, with the foxgloves in full bloom. Previous owners have been coppiced the wood on a regular basis with appropriate felling licence approval. It is located in the Kent Down (area of outstanding natural beauty) AONB.
Due to its great value as part of our woodland heritage, Deacon Wood and the surrounding woods, all being part of a larger woodland known as Longbeech, are protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) and Article 4 designation. The wood is also designated as a Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI) These do not prevent normal woodland management when covered by a Forestry Commission approved management plan.
There is a covenant click here to read designed to ensure that all can have quiet and peaceful enjoyment of their woodland.
