Dens Wood is a truly distinctive woodland, bordered by a gentle stream and nestled within the scenic High Weald National Landscape.

The southern part of the site is classified as ancient semi-natural woodland and boasts a rich variety of broadleaf species. Hornbeam and chestnut coppice make up much of the canopy, complemented by mature oak, beech, hazel, and birch. Two large seasonal ponds are also found here, adding further interest to the undulating terrain.

As you head further north, a central track runs west to east from the main entrance through the site. To the northeast, a secure storage shed and a shelter have been installed, equipped with solar power. From this point, winding woodland paths lead further north, passing a well-defined clearing with a picnic bench and BBQ area. In this section, the tree mix expands to include spruce, pine, ash, hawthorn, and cherry.

Continuing north, you'll reach the Glotenham Stream, which borders the entire northern edge of the site, opening out to fields beyond. This area is especially picturesque, with oak and hornbeam dominating the landscape and bluebells blanketing the forest floor in spring. Wildlife is abundant throughout the wood, with deer frequenting the area along with badgers and a wide range of birdlife.

The woodland is easy to navigate, with paths connecting various spots perfect for summer camping. A caravan tucked away in the northern section offers convenient shelter during wet weather or overnight stays. There is also some windblown chestnut to the north of the access track that would provide an excellent source of firewood.

Just a short drive away is the village of Robertsbridge, offering a small shop, bakery, and two pubs, along with a train station providing direct services to London. The coastal town of Hastings is also within easy reach, only 20 minutes by car.

The ward is Burwash & the Weald, and the county council is East Sussex.

Boundaries: The boundary is open to the N, W, E and partially fenced S. North follows the Glotnenham Stream, east and west border neighbouring woodland and marked with stakes. South borders Kent Lane and a neighbouring field in the southeast corner.

Access: Vehicle access is possible via a hard track and a shared locked gate. Parking is possible at numerous points within the woodland, including a private stoned area big enough for several cars near the main entrance.
