Fryarne Park Wood (Part) is a stunning example of ancient English woodland nestled within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The woodland's history is immediately evident upon entering, with towering oak and beech trees creating a majestic canopy. This site holds a designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), underscoring its ecological significance.

In addition to the grand oak and beech, you’ll find holly, birch, hornbeam, and chestnut coppice of various ages throughout the woodland. Veteran trees are well-spaced, allowing light to filter through the high canopy. The ground is mostly flat and clear, with numerous open glades ideal for woodland activities.

The western boundary extends beyond power lines, and although this area is currently overgrown, it could be easily cleared in part to improve access to the woodland beyond. This section of the site boasts its own unique charm and character.

Wildlife thrives in these woods, with deer and badgers being frequent visitors. A notable feature is a large badger sett located in the southeastern corner of the site.

Conveniently situated near the peaceful village of Stelling Minnis, Fryarne Park Wood is within walking distance of a welcoming pub. The historic city of Canterbury lies to the north, while the coast is just a short drive to the south, making it a perfect retreat for nature lovers.

The district council is Folkestone and Hythe and the county council is Kent.

Boundaries: The boundary is open on all sides and marked in places with blue paint and orange tape. N and E follow South Lodge Road. All others border neighbouring woodlands.

Access: There is excellent vehicle access directly from South Lodge Road. A wide track leads into the woodland where there are good areas for parking.
