Description Hogshead Wood is set in a valley, with a small seasonal stream in the lower part. The wood contains a good mix of trees, dominated by some large areas of beautiful maturing and well-spaced Scots pine. There are also some Douglas fir, the very best of the non-native trees for producing commercial timber. Both these conifers give quite an open feel to the wood. There is also an area of chestnut coppice and sycamore interspersed with a few mature oaks. The coppice could usefully be cut now, or left to grow further for the next few years. An owner could probably create a pond, which would be helpful in attracting more wildlife into the wood.
This is part of Brewers Wood, considered to be Ancient Semi-Natural Woodland, and lies in the High Weald AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).
The owner of Hogshead Wood has vehicle rights of way along the tracks on the map marked in green.
Please note, none of these woods are suitable for residential development, other uses such as summer camping may well be suitable.
