Mail Wood is an accessible area of ancient, replanted woodland located on the edge of Langley Heath.
The woodland has been largely replanted with sweet chestnut coppice, though some magnificent veteran oaks still tower over the new growth. The chestnut could offer a valuable source of firewood for the new owner. You'll also find birch, hawthorn, hazel, cherry, holly, and ash scattered throughout.
Clear woodland paths wind through the woods, edged in springtime by bluebells and wood anemones. Several clearings provide ideal spots to set up a base camp—one particularly inviting spot sits beneath a grand oak and includes a rustic bench to sit and enjoy the surroundings.
The area is well connected, with a choice of excellent pubs and restaurants within walking distance, and Maidstone is just a five-minute drive away. With easy access to the M20, both London and the coast are within easy reach.
The ward is Leeds & Langley and the county council is Kent.
Boundaries: The boundary is open on all sides. W follows the public footpath, E, the main access track. N borders neighbouring woodland, recently felled, and S follows Gravelly Bottom Road.
