The Surrey Hills supports large areas of woodland and forest, Marks Wood is set centrally well away from roads at the end of a long private track where there is a right of way in perpetuity. This area is classified as ancient replanted woodland, the present crop of firs was planted in the 70's, there are plenty of broadleaved trees with their associated ground flora complimenting the conifers. The freehold is with the Beatrice Webb Trust, until recently the occupier of the Beatrice Webb House, now occupied by an independant school. Beatrice Webb was an interesting person, she was a co-founder of the London School of Economics and a social reformer.
As will be seen by the contours the land has an interesting topograpy and slopes down to the western side.
This is part of the Mole Valley, is London Greenbelt and in the Surrey Hills AONB designated as such because of its fine landscape quality. The whole wooded area is covered by a section iv, a planning designation, this helps to protect all the woods here.
