Priory Wood, just by the remains of the old Priory, has plenty of firewood, ponds suitable for enlargement and surprisingly despite its proximity to the M3 a wealth of wildlife.  Oak and ash are the main broadleaved trees and in equal numbers larch and Norway spruce, the conifers. Silver birch and alder are present too, hazel is the main species in the shrub layer. Primroses and plenty of bird life, some of the herons fly over from the adjacent heronry and muntjac deer graze.

Nearby, England's largest private house, the palace of the Marquess of Winchester, is now a ruin of Old Basing. Unfortunately the Marquess was on the wrong ‘side’ in the Civil War and Oliver Cromwell and his followers converted this large abode into the ruin it is today.

Covenant  The purchasers of the woodland will be asked to enter into a covenant to ensure the quiet and peaceful enjoyment of this and adjoining woodlands, click HERE to read and download.

Access   From Greywell Road the byway leads down to the main gate and from here there is a private right of way as far as the entrance to Priory Wood. Vehicles may be parked in the open area just before the entrance and in dryer weather they can be taken as far as the wood.

Boundaries   Are shown by blue markings on free standing posts and on boundary trees. They are as follows: along the western side a line the edge of the track; to the north there are free-standing posts up to a bank, then along the bank where there are marked trees; along the eastern side the boundary is a bank topped by marked trees - and to the south blue marked posts.

Please note, none of these woods are suitable for residential development, other uses such as summer camping may well be suitable.
